How We Share Stories
The Untold Side publishes lived experience carefully. A story can be powerful without becoming public before the person sharing it is ready.
Nothing is published automatically
Stories sent through the website are reviewed first. Submission does not equal publication.
You choose how you are credited
Contributors can use their real name, a chosen display name or remain anonymous. We do not change that choice without permission.
Your story should be yours to tell
Please avoid sharing another person’s private medical or identifying information unless you have their permission. If a story includes a partner, carer, family member or clinician, we may suggest edits that protect their privacy while keeping the experience truthful.
Editing is light and transparent
We may correct spelling, improve readability or remove unnecessary identifying details. We do not rewrite someone’s experience into a different story. Significant changes should be agreed before publication.
Lived experience and medical evidence stay separate
A personal account can describe what happened to one person, but it cannot prove that the same thing will happen to everyone. Where a story raises a medical question, researched information is sourced separately.
Carer and family perspectives matter too
Partners, carers, parents and family members can experience epilepsy very differently from the person having the seizures. Their perspective is welcome when it is their own experience to share and the privacy of other people is respected.
You can change your mind before publication
If a contribution is still being reviewed, the contributor can ask for it not to be published. Once something is public, we will still consider reasonable requests to update attribution or remove identifying details.
